Kolahoi Glacier at the height 4700 meters in northwestern Himalayan Range and around 11 km area the Kolahoi glacier is larges glacier in Kashmir valley. The water of glacier is main source to Lidder river and gives rise to river Jehlum. Trekking to Kolahoi Glacier: and Basmai lake discloses the biggest glacier in kashmir valley and some hidden alpine lakes in kolahoi massif ,Region north Indian Himalayas jammu and Kashmir District Anantnag Mount Kolahoi Height 5423 Meters. Kolahoi Glacier Trek is a crossover trek from Sind Valley into the Lidder Valley passing Basmai Pass (4200m). The trek passes through high altitude alpine lakes situated at the foothills of Mount Kolahoi (5425m), the highest mountain peak of the Vale of Kashmir. It crosses streams and plenty of colorful meadows. Though trekking in Kashmir is not the newest still this expedition is no walk in the park. Arduous days, steep and rocky passes, and altitudes approaching 4300m all collide to create a challenging trek in one of the most beautiful and serene Himalayas of Kashmir. Kolahoi Glacier Trek Day 1: Aru to Lidderwat Altitude: 7,958 ft (2,426 m) to 9,131 ft (2,783 m) Time taken: 5 hours, 8 km Trek gradient: Easy – moderate. Initial gradual ascent for 30 minutes followed by a gentle undulating walk. It is a gentle but long climb from Aru to Lidderwat, covering a distance of 8 km in 5 hours. The trail to Lidderwat starts to climb straight out of Aru village, along the course of the Lidder River. Follow the trail past the herbal wild plant fields The trail gets into a cluster of fir trees and continues to climb. Half an hour later, the trail pops out at a clearing called Lidder Meadows gradually easing into plains offering views of serene Lidder river grazing through the valley’s. Camp Day 2: Lidderwat - Kolhai - Lidderwat Altitude: 9131 ft (2785 m) to 11,700 ft (3570 m) Time taken: 6 hours return 8 kms Trek Gradient: Moderate to Easy Long Walk through the plains along the Lidder river and gradual ascent towards, the Kolhai Glacier. (One can go deeper into the Glacier depending upon the pace of walking or time taken to reach the Glacier). Start Early after Breakfast and walk along the Lidder plains few hours into the walk will give you the views of mighty mount Kolhai known as Matterhorn of Kashmir for it’s imposing stature. Upon reaching Kolhai go deeper into the Glacial valley’s and explore the vast and biggest Glacier of Kashmir known as water lifeline and origin of Lidder river.In the Afternoon return to Lidderwat base camp. Day 3: Lidderwat to Aru Valley Return Today After Breakfast it will be the return walk to Aru valley, walk at your own pace and by Afternoon or Late Afternoon you will Arrive at Aru Valley. Overnight stay in Guest House.
